the undoing of any leader is to allow people around him or the office to cage his vision of/for the people.

Hopelessness is a robber of ability. It denies any people the opportunity to come out of challenges. With such situation the point of commencement to tackle a problem is often confusing. Nigerian society has succeeded in painting a hopeless picture of what is causing the confusion in the land. Obviously, that is what those who have failed in their responsibility in championing a virile society desire; hence, escaping from the direct question of their failure. When everyone is culpable; it throws up the question of who is ready to start the remedy.
Nigeria is a good country. Very governable, workable and has what it takes to move forward as a civilized people. Whoever tells you otherwise is not aware of the makeup of the people called Nigerians and the inherent power of leadership.
When Nigerian leaders fail; they paint picture of a difficult society that is so complex in need and challenges. I disagreed completely with such position. Most Nigerian leaders are not visionary and courageous; but get lost in the euphoria of ascending into a lordship position.
Vision differentiates two persons. Vision pushes one to acquire all that is necessary to achieve a goal while a visionless person is lazy and short-sighted.
One of the biggest drawbacks of leadership capacity in Nigeria is the culture of slow response to potential quagmire. We wait until situation gets beyond manageable level before addressing it.
A leader is the fastest contaminants in any society. Whatever he stands for expressly or implicitly will be the direction of his people. Hence, his choice at the inception of assumption of such position is very cogent as to what kind of tune he wants to set.
If he gives out the wrong signal at the beginning, correcting it may become impossible.
Perhaps the negative gain (but positive to politicians/elites) of democracy is the success of ensuring the the people are not together in demanding result from leaders' stewardship.
Looking at the country Nigeria- some may ascribe our challenges to ethnicity, religion, and politics. A leader must cultivate sound ideas that surpass the influence of these orientations (ethnicity, religion, etc) in the land. Without first internalizing a position where better thoughts supersedes the divisions, there is no way the leader can show a better way for the people.
A negative leadership style is divide and rule in which leaders deliberately introduce divisions in order to carve out a portion for favourable disposition and antagonism of a seeming enemy group.
It is unfortunate that this tool has been used in many occasions in Nigeria and it is becoming the only tool for the leaders in order to achieve their parochial gains. The wideness of ethnic or religious differences in Nigeria got its boost via this style of leadership.
Nigeria posses sound human resource that is capable of moving the nation forward; coordinating it with a vision, which is the task of a leader is what is grossly lacking.
In Nigeria, the West is brilliant, the North is luxurious, the East is ingenious and the South is splendorous. These attributes must be harnessed through vision and courage for the profit of all.
