Host nation France will be facing Iceland in the fourth and the final
quarter-final clash of the European championship. For this fixture,
considering the strong attacking lineup they possess and also the
support from the home fans, France are the favourites.
The attack
includes Olivier Giroud, Dimitri Payet and Antoine Griezmann as the
latter two have been in fine form for Didier Deschamps' side. The trio
are likely to start against Iceland with Deschamps having the option to
call Manchester United star Anthony Martial from the bench.
France
defeated the Republic of Ireland in the Round of 16 in a clash that saw
them come from behind to seal a 2-1 win. Atletico Madrid's Griezmann
scored two goals in three minutes in the second half to make sure his
side are still alive in the tournament. Antoine Griezmann scored a brace in France's 2-1 win over Hungary GettyDeschamps
will be hoping his side can seal another victory in the 90 minutes as
he would be looking to avoid penalties. However, he would have warned
his players not to take their quarter-final opponent lightly, especially
considering their record so far in the Euro 2016.
Iceland sealed a berth in the last eight after knocking England out
of the Euros. Following the defeat, the Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson
stepped down from his post. Despite taking an early lead from Wayne
Rooney's penalty, England were unable to press ahead.
Just minutes
after the Manchester United captain had given his side the lead, Ragnar
Sigurdsson scored the equaliser in the sixth minute of the match.
Twelve minutes later, it was Kolbeinn Sigþorsson who gave Iceland the
much needed lead as they made it to the quarter-final of the Euro 2016.
