    • August 14, 2016
    • • 16:00
    • • Emirates Stadium, London
    • Referee: M. Oliver

    • 90'+5'
      FULL-TIME: ARSENAL 3-4 LIVERPOOL.
    • 90'+4'
Time running out on the Arsenal here! Liverpool have the ball high up the pitch as they look to run the final minute off the clock, and it's looking as though the Gunners have no more fight left in them. This has been a clinic in how to defend a lead from Liverpool over the last 10 minutes.
    • 90'+2'
Arsenal back on the front foot now, sending everyone forward. They do appear to have a final push in them after all. Walcott takes a pass inside the area and turns brilliantly, but he trips over the ball at the vital moment as the attack comes to nothing!
    • 90'
Liverpool have done so well to deny Arsenal so much as a sniff at goal in the last five minutes or so, as their hopes of a comeback have faded drastically. We're into stoppage time now, and there will be five minutes of it.
    • 88'
      SubstitutionGeorginio Wijnaldum Kevin Stewart
Liverpool make their final change to wind time off the clock, as Kevin Stewart replaces Wijnaldum. They have a throw high up the pitch when play resumes.
    • 86'
      Yellow Card Granit Xhaka
Xhaka's clumsy touch forces him into a rash challenge and he sees his first yellow card in the Premier League as a result.
    • 85'
THAT WOULD HAVE DONE IT! Wijnaldum does excellently to win the ball high up the pitch and sprint forward, before squaring perfectly for Firmino. The Brazilian strikes it first-time, but his thunderous drive deflects just wide for a corner, crashing into the side-netting! Some of the traveling fans thought that had gone in...
    • 84'
This is a strong spell from Liverpool and at a key time as well. They've managed to alleviate the pressure on their goal as they get forward and keep the ball well in the attacking half.
    • 82'
No shortage of bodies forward for the Gunners as they search for the equaliser. Sanchez sprints to get on the end of a cross in from the right, but Lovren manages to head behind for a corner. Pressure continuing to build here...
    • 80'
The Emirates is as loud as it's been all afternoon as they urge their side forward to complete the comeback. Liverpool are looking vulnerable, with Lovren especially hesitant in defence. Safe to say momentum has completely shifted here!
    • 78'
Well this game promised to have goals and it certainly hasn't disappointed! It's resembling that of Liverpool-Norwich last season, and there's still over 10 minutes left to play! Can Arsenal complete the unlikely comeback?
    • 76'
      SubstitutionAdam Lallana Divock Okoth Origi
Divock Origi replaces Lallana as Klopp senses the need for some fresh legs.
    • 75'
      Assist Santiago Cazorla González
Cazorla is credited with his second assist off the bench!
    • 75'
      Goal Calum Chambers
GAME ON THEN! They looked a team left for dead 15 minutes ago, but Arsenal are back within a goal! Chambers rises high to get on the end of a free-kick and gets just enough of a touch to divert it beyond the reach of Mignolet at the far post!
    • 74'
STAT: Liverpool have scored more Premier League goals than any other team in 2016 so far (45), including today.

    • They're dropping like flies! Henderson is the latest Liverpool player to go to ground, just a minute after play stopped with Mane nursing a knock. Luckily for the Reds, neither look too serious.
    • 70'
      SubstitutionPhilippe Coutinho Correia Emre Can
Coutinho is replaced by Emre Can as Liverpool look to close up shop.
    • 69'
Liverpool have a bit of a worry here, a rare dark cloud over this dream afternoon in London. Coutinho has gone down and stayed there, as he requires some attention from the training staff. Hopefully, for their sake, it's nothing serious.
    • 67'
      SubstitutionMohamed El Nenny Granit Xhaka
A Premier League debut for Granit Xhaka here as he comes on to replace Elneny.
    • 66'
Arsenal all over the place here! Liverpool look like scoring with every attack as the Gunners fail to sort themselves out. They were leading the match 40 minutes ago, but they've since been stripped of all their confidence!
    • 64'
      Assist Santiago Cazorla González
Cazorla picks up the assist. Talk about instant impact...
    • 64'
      Goal Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
THE GOALS KEEP COMING! A glimmer of hope for Arsenal as Oxlade-Chamberlain beats Mignolet at his near post with the aid of a deflection after a lovely piece of individual skill.
    • 63'
      Assist Adam Lallana
Lallana picks up the assist for springing Mane down the right, but the forward still had it all to do.
    • 63'
      Goal Sadio Mané
ARSENAL BEING RIPPED TO SHREDS ON OPENING DAY! Four for Liverpool, and this may be the best of the lot! Mane shows outstanding pace to sprint down the right flank, cut into the centre between Monreal and Chambers, switching onto his left and sending an emphatic finish into the top corner! That's truly special from the Senegal forward who has a debut goal!
    • 61'
      SubstitutionAaron Ramsey Santiago Cazorla González
Ramsey is also replaced now, as Santi Cazorla comes on in his place.
    • 59'
      SubstitutionAlex Iwobi Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain replaces Iwobi as Arsenal desperately search for a spark.
    • 57'
      Yellow Card Alex Iwobi
It keeps getting worse for Arsenal. Iwobi picks up a yellow as Liverpool continue to run rampant.
    • 56'
      Assist Nathaniel Clyne
Terrific run and even better delivery from Clyne who picks up the assist.
    • 56'
      Goal Philippe Coutinho Correia
LIVERPOOL RUNNING RIOT IN LONDON! The Gunners are unraveling at the seams! Liverpool generate more exceptional build-up play, stringing countless passes together before Clyne is sprung down the right. The full-back picks out the run of Coutinho in the centre, and the Brazilian sends the perfect first-time finish beyond Cech from in close!
    • 53'
STAT: The Gunners have lost just two of their last 15 home games on opening day (W10 D3), although those defeats have come in the last three attempts.
    • 51'
North London is left stunned! What a response this has been from Liverpool! They've got a great energy about them now, with even more spring in their step following the go-ahead goal. Arsenal are on the ropes and need to dig deep to get themselves back in this match before it's too late.
    • 49'
      Assist Georginio Wijnaldum
Wijnaldum picks up an assist in his Liverpool debut.
    • 49'
      Goal Adam Lallana
THEY'VE TURNED IT AROUND! From behind, Liverpool lead at the Emirates! Lallana does exquisitely to control Wijnaldum's cross off the chest and then slide a finish under Cech, all while running away from goal! It's a delicious strike from the Englishman!
    • 48'
Liverpool enjoy a very positive start to the second half, showing more urgency than they did throughout the majority of the first 45 minutes. They've got Arsenal at sixes and sevens in defence, with the Gunners caught off guard by the Reds' energy out of the interval.
    • 46'
      Back underway at the Emirates!
Theo Walcott put Arsenal ahead just one minute after being denied from the penalty spot, but Arsenal are unable to carry their lead into the interval as Philippe Coutinho's extraordinary free-kick in first-half stoppage-time tied the game up at one, which is where we stand in anticipation of the second half in north London.
  • 45'+2'
    HALF-TIME: ARSENAL 1-1 LIVERPOOL.
  • 45'+1'
    Goal Philippe Coutinho Correia

STUNNING HIT! LIVERPOOL ON LEVEL TERMS! It's a sumptuous free-kick from Coutinho who guides his strike into the top corner from 25 yards out! No chance for Cech as parity is restored at the Emirates on the brink of half-time!
  • 45'
Liverpool win a free-kick in a dangerous area as the board goes up to indicate two minutes of stoppage time.
  • 43'
STAT: Liverpool have only won one of their last 20 away trips to Arsenal in all competitions (W1 D8 L11) and have collected just eight points in 10 Premier League games at the Emirates Stadium.
  • 41'
    Yellow Card Dejan Lovren
Look at him go! Outstanding running and strength from Alexis on the break! He takes on a few defenders before Lovren finally hacks him to ground with a sloppy challenge that warrants and receives a yellow card.
  • 39'
BETTER! Well-worked attack from Liverpool as they run into the channels and finally exploit the space made available to them in the final third. Wijnaldum gets on the end of it and tries to steer a first-time shot in at the far post, but Cech is wise to it!
  • 37'
    Yellow Card Francis Coquelin
No stranger to a booking, Coquelin picks up his first yellow of the season, and certainly not his last.
  • 35'
Liverpool certainly have more urgency about them now, but they're lacking in ingenuity. This make-shift Arsenal back-line is there for the picking, but they have hardly been made to work in this first half. Klopp can't be happy with what he's seen thus far.
  • 33'
What a wild few minutes in north London! Just as they were starting to look the better side, Liverpool concede a penalty. Hope is restored as Mignolet saves, but they switch off and are made to pay by Walcott once and for all. The goal is exactly what this game needed.
  • 31'
    Assist Alex Iwobi
Iwobi picks up the assist, but Ramsey deserves credit as well as it was his run that opened up the space for that move to happen.
  • 31'
    Goal Theo Walcott
SWEET, SWEET REDEMPTION! Just 68 seconds after seeing his penalty saved, Walcott finds the back of the net! The winger takes a pass from Iwobi and, from a rather difficult position, sends a stunning finish past Mignolet and in at the far post! Some hit, that.
  • 30'
    Missed Penalty Theo Walcott
That wasn't a poor penalty by any means from Walcott, he's just unlucky with Mignolet guessing correctly.
  • 30'
    Penalty save Simon Mignolet
MIGNOLET SAVES! The keeper guesses correctly, diving to his right to parry Walcott's penalty! Still scoreless at the Emirates!
  • 29'
    Yellow Card Alberto Moreno Pérez
Moreno's muted protest is followed by a yellow card.
  • 28'
PENALTY TO ARSENAL! What in the world is Moreno thinking?! Walcott is running away from goal, in a nowhere close to threatening position, yet Moreno slides in recklessly and takes him to ground! That's some inexcusable defending from the left-back.
  • 26'
    Yellow Card Adam Lallana
Arsenal break quickly and Lallana is booked as he takes one for the team to break up the move.
  • 25'
Liverpool are starting to put their attacks together nicely now. Confidence is building as they continue on the ascendency. Firmino gets on the end of a tidy attack, but a critical block prevents his shot from going through - and it's a good thing too, for Arsenal, as that looked like it was set to cause Cech problems.
  • 23'
Frustration is building a bit for Arsenal, who haven't managed to create much of anything with their possession in this first half. Walcott is visibly upset with Ramsey for not playing a throughball in his direction, and lets the Welshman hear it, but he was a good two yards offside!
  • 21'
Liverpool clearly think they can trouble the two young Arsenal centre-backs. It's the only explanation for how narrow their front three is playing. There's no width about them going forward, and it's all been congested in the final third as a result.
  • 19'
STAT: Liverpool v Arsenal has seen more hat-tricks than any other fixture in Premier League history (5).
  • 17'
BRILLIANTLY DEFENDED! Mane has been quiet up to this point, but he shows a strong desire to get involved as he drifts into the centre and steals the ball, before driving at the Arsenal defence. He looks to take them all on and nearly succeeds, but an excellent tackle from Coquelin takes the sting out of the attack, before Holding does the final deed to snuff it out.
  • 15'
NEAR DISASTER! Moreno's errant defensive header finds the streaking Ramsey in acres of space. The Welshman's first touch is a bit heavy, however, allowing Moreno to make a crucial, and impressive, recovery to deny the shot at goal and force Ramsey to settle for a corner.
  • 13'
The gap between Liverpool's midfield and attack is far too big. The divide has plagued their ability to consistently get at this Arsenal back line. Clyne takes some initiative to bridge the gap, finding a nice pocket of space on the right, but he sends a rather harmless shot into the waiting arms of Cech.
  • 11'
Liverpool looked like world-beaters in the preseason, but in the opening 10 minutes here at the Emirates they haven't been able to replicate that. Arsenal are enjoying the bulk of possession, looking quite comfortable on the ball as well, while the Reds are struggling with their build-up play.
  • 9'
STAT: Arsenal have lost just one of their last nine Premier League meetings with Liverpool (W4 D4 L1).
  • 7'
STRAIGHT AT HIM! A wonderfully worked move down, you guessed it, the left flank, sees Alexis get on the end of a string of intricate, one-touch passes. The Chilean stabs an effort at goal, but it's hit straight into the waiting arms of Mignolet!
  • 5'
Arsenal are enjoying plenty of possession in the attacking half, particularly eager to work down the left flank. Clyne has his hands full, but he's been up to the task thus far, while having plenty of support around him as well.
  • 3'
There's a lovely tempo about the match in the early stages, with both sides keen to push the pace in possession. Arsenal mount the first dangerous attack, but Bellerin overhits his cross. The pressure stays on, however, and it's Monreal who gets forward on the overlap to win the Gunners a corner.
  • 1'
AND WE'RE OFF! Liverpool get us underway, attacking right to left, in their black away strip, with Arsenal in red with white trim.
  • Jurgen Klopp hands out three debuts at the Emirates this evening, with Ragnar Klavan, Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane all in the XI. Klavan forms a partnership with Dejan Lovren at centre-half, with Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno on the flanks. Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson join Wijnaldum in midfield, while Philippe Coutinho and Mane provide support for striker Roberto Firmino.
  • With Danny Welbeck injured and Olivier Giroud lacking match fitness, it's Alexis Sanchez who leads the line for the Gunners, with Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Aaron Ramsey, fresh off his excellent Euro campaign, in support
  • Rob Holding makes his Premier League debut for Arsenal in defence, alongside Calum Chambers, as Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, Gabriel and Carl Jenkinson are all unavailable. There's no debut for Granit Xhaka, however, as he starts on the bench with Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin the preferred duo in midfield.
  • SUBS: Stewart, Can, Origi, Manninger, Arnold, Grujic, Matip.
  • LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Mignolet; Clyne, Lovren, Klavan, Moreno; Lallana, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Mane, Coutinho, Firmino.
  • SUBS: Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xhaka, Akpom, Cazorla, Gibbs, Ospina, Wilshere.
  • ARSENAL (4-2-3-1): Cech; Bellerin, Holding, Chambers, Monreal; Elneny, Coquelin; Walcott, Ramsey, Iwobi; Alexis.
  • CONFIRMED TEAM NEWS:
  • Many are tipping this to be the game of the weekend and you can see why. Arsenal have an abundance of injury woes at the back and Liverpool, who have scored the most Premier League goals in 2016, have seen their new signings integrate seamlessly. Should be plenty of goals on display in north London.
  • The Reds have renewed hope under Jurgen Klopp, coming off their worst Premier League point haul since 2011/12, as they aim to get back to the Champions League. While Liverpool set their sights on a return to European football, it may be the absence of it this season that serves the greatest boost to their Premier League campaign.
  • The Gunners, searching for an unprecedented 21st consecutive top-four finish, begin 2016 in the midst of another relatively quiet summer in the transfer market. Fans are already complaining about the lack of activity, while Arsene Wenger struggles to name a full team on the first weekend of the season due to a laundry list of injuries in defence.
  • Hello and welcome to north London, the Emirates Stadium to be exact, as opening weekend continues with this mouth-watering fixture between Arsenal and Liverpool!
