Back
in the days when witchery started to egress in Nollywood movie
industry, one movie which truly stood out as being scary and
spine-chilling was the famous "karishika" movie.
For all those who were too young to remember or never got to see this movie, it was directed by Ifeanyi Ikpoenyi, and even the background sounds was bound to make you quiver. Those were the good old days when Nigerian movies comfortably dominated the Ghanaian movie industry.
Produced in 1996, Karishika, like many other Nollywood films of the same genre displayed how Satan eats his way into the souls of the living. To recruit new followers for his kingdom of darkness he sends out Karishika, queen of demons, to the world of the living. There she misguides and seduces a number of people, who all fall prey to her because of their own shortcomings. All but the last fall for the temptation of either the fulfilment of their desperate wishes, or money, or sex. The last, a pastor, resists all temptation and is saved from hell through divine intervention in a final showdown between a Pentecostal congregation and Karishika and her helpers
A popular chant in this classic movie goes like “karashika! karashika! Queen of Darkness, Lucifer Lucifer King of Demons?” and if you remember this sound then I'm sure you're now driving down memory lane. Becky Okorie, who played the "Karishika" character has been missing or simply forgotten until now. According to sources, she is living the "big girl" life in Washington DC with her lovely child and man.
